We recently got another look at the impending 2017 KTM 390 Duke test mule ahead of its planned launch in India. While the test mule revealed little new information regarding this roadster-segment motorcycle, it did provide a quick glimpse at the instrument cluster, which appears to be considerably different from the panel on the present model. Notably, the latest model’s console contains a wealth of ride-related information. We might get some new data on the new model.

The spy photos also show the body panels in detail, displaying the muscular fuel tank, split-style seats, split-style pillion grabrail, five-spoke wheels, and compact exhaust canister. This test mule was photographed wearing pre-production paint. However, in May of this year, we saw a production-ready model with final paints and decals from Europe. This forthcoming model will include a new chassis and subframe, upside-down front forks, an asymmetrically mounted rear mono-shock, and disc brakes on both wheels as standard equipment.

Aside from the new hardware, KTM is also expected to change the mechanical parameters in the form of a motor with a significantly bigger displacement. The future model is believed to have a 399cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, as opposed to the present model’s 373cc unit. With more displacement, we may expect increased power and torque ratings. For comparison, the current version produces 43bhp and 37Nm. While KTM India has yet to announce a launch date, we anticipate that the new model will arrive in our market very soon. The Austrian manufacturer’s Indian arm should launch this motorbike at a competitive beginning price. For reference, the current version costs Rs. 2.97 lahks (ex-showroom, Delhi).
