Unexplored paths often lead to new destinations, and TVS took a blank sheet of paper and designed a motorcycle that will also create a new segment. Well, the company has released a new product called the Ronin. We anticipate that the 2022 TVS Ronin, which will be launched in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom), will compete with a slew of motorcycles in our market. But what is it exactly? Is it deserving of a spot in your garage? These are the questions we’ve been hearing about it, and the answers to all of them can be found by reading our TVS Ronin review.

Looker? TVS Ronin Review

Ronin’s design is based on a neo-retro theme by TVS. Because it appears polarising, it will be a hit or miss for the general public. While some will fall head over heels for it, the remaining audience will find it difficult to find appealing. Surprisingly, it looks good in person. The fit and finish, as well as the paint scheme, are of the highest calibre.

In terms of design highlights, the off-centre instrument console, LED headlamp, and gold-painted USD forks give it a premium appearance. We’ve seen some oddly designed rear-view mirrors on motorcycles recently, but the Ronin has sharply designed units. The alloy wheels have a diamond-cut finish and are 17 inches in diameter. The exhaust canister is large, but it isn’t as noticeable as it is on the Apache RR 310.

Overall, it’s a new design that will take time to grow on the audience. The rear fender, on the other hand, could have been done more simply. In addition, Ronin’s lighting is entirely LED.

TVS Ronin Review: Is It Tech-Heavy?

The Ronin’s switchgear and instrument console are both of high quality. In fact, the instrument console provides a wealth of information that can be difficult for the rider to process at times. Fortunately, it is legible in all riding conditions. TVS also provides Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation and call and SMS notifications. Along with TVS’ Glide Through Traffic technology, the package includes a silent starter motor. And we’re happy to report that everything worked perfectly on our ride.

TVS Ronin Test: Is it Fun to Ride?

The TVS Ronin is powered by a 225cc single-cylinder engine that produces 20hp of maximum power and 20 Nm of maximum torque. The engine’s perfectly squared architecture produced a strong mid-range and a noticeable low-end grunt. The top end remains uninteresting. The gearbox is a 5-speed unit that shifts smoothly. The Ronin’s assist function employs a slipper clutch. It makes downshifting simple and isn’t too heavy.

The Ronin is a manoeuvrable motorcycle that does not make the rider sweat excessively when the roads become serpentine. The motorcycle’s offset front axle aids in this regard by providing sharper steering geometry. Furthermore, the suspension setup achieves a good balance of dynamics and comfort. Showa forks are used in the front, while a mono-shock with a box-section swing arm is used in the rear.

During our ride in orange-alerted Goa, the TVS Remora tyres provided consistent grip. They are given a block pattern and have 110-section and 130-section rims, respectively. Furthermore, the rider’s triangle provides an upright riding position, which makes the overall experience more comfortable. The adjustable levers and practical rear view mirrors make it more enjoyable.

When it comes to braking, the Ronin has dual-channel brakes with two modes: Urban and Rain. The intrusion is more pronounced in rain mode, whereas the ABS kicks in slightly later in urban mode. As a result, it was clear that the Ronin is a user-friendly motorcycle.

Final thoughts on the TVS Ronin?

The Ronin feels like a very versatile motorcycle to me, despite its starting price of Rs 1.49 lakh ex-showroom. And I believe it is more about making motorcycle riding more accessible. It provides financial accessibility as well as rideability because it is both enjoyable and affordable to ride. Of course, the design will appeal to a wide range of people. However, it must be modified in a few places. So, who should get one? We believe the 2022 TVS Ronin is the answer for someone looking for a comfortable motorcycle that can make urban commutes enjoyable.
