The highly anticipated Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 has finally made its debut at EICMA 2022, and it is available in two variants: standard and tourer. While most of the details were leake ahead of the launch, we now have the specifications for this flagship Royal Enfield cruiser.

- The heaviest of all modern REs, weighing 241 kg.
Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650’s design and underpinnings
To begin with, this appears to be a very nice-looking motorcycle with a great sense of proportion due to the choice of a 19-inch front wheel and a 16-inch rear wheel. The Super Meteor, like the Meteor 350, rides on alloy wheels with CEAT Zoom Cruz tyres, eliminating the need for tubed tyres.
There’s also the chunky Showa 43mm USD fork, which marks the first time Royal Enfield has used this suspension setup. Another first for a RE is the Super Meteor 650’s full-LED headlight. A 320mm disc at the front and a 300mm disc at the rear are paire with dual-channel ABS. Given the weight distribution of a cruiser-style motorcycle, the large rear brake allows for stronger braking performance from the rear brake.
The large 15.7-litre teardrop-shaped fuel tank flows downwards to a split seat setup with what appears to be a spacious and comfortable rider seat. The rear section looks clean as well, thanks to the simple brake lamp mounted on the fender and the indicators placed near the number plate. The instrument panel is a familiar round unit with the Tripper navigation display visible on the side, and it comes standard. The cast aluminium switch cubes are another difference between the existing 650 twins.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 engine specifications
The heart of the Super Meteor 650 is undoubtedly the much-loved 650cc parallel twin that debuted in the Interceptor and Continental GT 650. The visual aspect of this engine that most people will appreciate is that, unlike the current 650s, these exhaust pipes do not stick out wide, making the bike easier to squeeze through tight gaps in traffic.
Royal Enfield has also done a good job of concealing the catalytic converters beneath the motorcycle. The 648cc air-and-oil-cooled parallel-twin engine produces 47hp at 7,250rpm and 52Nm at 5,650rpm. While the output figures are the same, torque arrives 500rpm later in the rev range when compared to the 650 twins. Royal Enfield claims that the Super Meteor 650 has the bespoke mapping and gearing and that 80 per cent of its peak torque figure is available at 2,500rpm.
While the engine remains largely unchanged, the Super Meteor receives a new chassis. The rake angle on the front end is much more relaxed than on the current 650s, which goes with the planted feel you’d expect from a 650cc cruiser motorcycle. The Super Meteor 650 has a seat height of 740mm and forward-set footpegs mounted near the front of the engine. While the low seat makes this bike more accessible to shorter riders, it is still a heavy machine, weighing in at 241kg (wet), making it the heaviest of all the Enfields currently on the market. Another consideration, especially given our road conditions, is the low 135mm ground clearance.
Pricing for Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 variants
The Super Meteor 650 will be offer in two models: standard and tourer. The Astral and Interstellar colourways are for the standard Super Meteor 650, while the Celestial colourways are for the range-topping tourer variant. The Astral and Interstellar have a more pared-down appearance, while the tourer model comes with a pillion backrest and a large windscreen. three different colours, while the Interstellar and Celestial come in two.
The Super Meteor 650 will be available in Europe beginning in spring 2023. The bike will be unveiled in India at Royal Enfield’s Rider Mania event later in November 2022, with no word on pricing at this time. We anticipate it will be price higher than the current 650s, somewhere between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As things stand, the Super Meteor 650 will face little competition, with its closest rival being the Benelli 502C, a more modern-looking motorcycle that is significantly more expensive.
