Harley-Davidson has finally unveiled the X-440 in India after much anticipation and a creative unveiling. The motorcycle is by far the cheapest model in the company’s lineup, with the closest competitor costing 17 and a half lakh. The X-440, on the other hand, starts at Rs 2.29 lakh and is made in India in conjunction with Hero MotoCorp. As one might expect, the American manufacturer is targeting for the entry-level market, vying for market share with the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda Hness, and Jawa. So, if you’re seeking to buy a motorbike around that price range or are simply curious about what the Harley-Davidson X-440 is all about, here’s everything you need to know about it.

Design
While styling the X-440, Harley-Davidson designers combed through their past. Visually, it is primarily influenced by Buell’s XR1200X. It has a boxy fuel tank, nicely sculpted side panels, and a short back end with a single-piece seat. Harley-Davidson has added nostalgic accents such as a circular headlamp and tail lamp, as well as a squarish tail lamp, all with LED lighting. The attention to detail, on the other hand, is excellent. The Harley-Davidson logo sits inside the headlamp, and the illumination is piled similarly to the electric LiveWire.

Variants
Harley-Davidson offers the X-440 in three colour options: Denim, Vivid, and S.
On the top-spec model, you’ll also notice the iconic Harley-Davidson machined alloy wheels and 3D decals. The mid-spec model features alloy wheels and dual-tone paint. The least expensive of the three is available with single-tone colourways and spoke wheels. Overall, we believe the X-440 has the potential to stand out among small-capacity neo-retro motorcycles. While all varieties include Bluetooth connectivity, the top-tier S trim includes additional functions that are enabled by an e-SIM and work with a smartphone app.

Engine
With so many motorcycles on the market with equal displacement and performance output, Harley-Davidson chose to stand apart by putting a 440cc engine in. This single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine produces 27bhp and 38Nm, which is significantly more than the Classic 350 or the Hness 350. Furthermore, its engine has a strong low and mid-range for city driving.
The Harley-Davidson X-440’s cycle elements include a trellis frame that rides on an 18-17-inch wheel combination. The front forks are 43mm upside-down, while the rear shocks are gas-charged dual shocks. Meanwhile, front and rear disc brakes are equipped with dual-channel ABS.

Features
The Harley has a long list of amenities, including full-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, and a TFT instrument cluster. This circular unit on the top-tier model provides smart connections, including turn-by-turn navigation, music, and call and message notifications. It also has a USB port, a gear position indicator, a distance to empty indicator, and a real-time mileage indicator. It is also the segment’s first motorcycle with auto-headlamp illumination, which switches on the headlamp when it detects a change in brightness.
