Recently, Bajaj reached a critical milestone. The Chakan assembly line produced the one millionth KTM motorcycle.

To commemorate this achievement, the manufacturer from Pune picked the 390 Adventure. However, the KTM 200 Duke was the first motorcycle from that manufacturing facility to be released in India in 2012. With the introduction of a variety of entry-level performance motorcycles, both companies have since made a significant impact on the Indian two-wheeler market.

Bajaj and KTM attempted to export larger capacity motorcycles like the 790 Duke via a completely knocked-down (CKD) approach while they were only focused on manufacturing sub-400cc motorcycles in the nation for India and the rest of the world. But that streetfighter didn’t blow up the sales charts because of its subpar positioning and pricing. In fact, they were forced to offer steep discounts on the final few pieces.

The Chakan facility currently produces entry-level KTM and Husqvarna bikes. There have been intentions to use the area for Gas Gas as well, although those plans haven’t been officially confirmed.
