Through its heavy ministries department, the Indian government has released a new set of testing standards for electric two-wheelers.

  • New standards for EV testing
  • Tests batteries and BMS
  • Beginning on April 1st, 2023.

All manufacturers of electric two-wheelers must ensure that their products, batteries, and related systems meet these new standards. Both the FAME programme and the production-linked incentive (PLI) must be use to produce these vehicles.

Government:

Six new tests will be conduct at the cell level, according to the heavy industries’ announcement. These include temperature cycling and altitude simulation. In the temperature cycling test, the lithium-ion cell’s response is evaluated after the chamber temperature is increased and maintained at a high level. Altitude simulation, on the other hand, will make sure that the batteries don’t blow up or catch fire when kept at a specific absolute pressure and temperature.

There are going to be a total of five tests at the battery pack level. However, 11 new tests will be conduct on the battery management system, which has historically been the cause of numerous EV fires. These new tests also involve dropping or letting battery packs fall freely to check that the lithium-ion batteries don’t blow up or catch fire. On April 1, 2023, these new regulations will take effect.
