Another look at the future KTM 1290 Super Duke R. It’s been spotted closely testing in Europe, and the fresh spy pictures reveal a lot about the updated Austrian streetfighter.
KTM will almost certainly replace the vertically stacked LED slats with LED projector headlights flanked by boomerang-shaped DRLs. Even the contour of the fuel tank and its extensions, as well as the back seat and general design, appear considerably more aggressive than previously. While the 1290 Duke is expected to seem just as sporty and youthful, the cuts and wrinkles appear to have grown noticeably.
It will be powered by KTM’s LC8-V2 twin motor, however, the output may be somewhat increased. The engine of the modern 1290 Duke produces around 180bhp and 140Nm. Even the engine tune could be tweaked significantly. This motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox and features a bidirectional quick-shifter. The 2024 KTM 1290 Duke R will also feature rider aids including traction control, ABS, ride modes, wheelie control, and engine braking levels. We also anticipate that KTM will include smartphone connectivity for navigation, call, audio, and SMS notifications.
The test bike seen here has adjustable WP USD front forks and a mono-shock. Meanwhile, the braking system has dual front discs and a single rear disc with Brembo callipers. This set-up rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in road-biased rubber. KTM has also fitted the test bike with a full-system Akrapovic exhaust system, which might be sold as an optional extra rather than as standard equipment.
KTM’s most powerful offering for the Indian market is currently the 390 series. While it did bring the 790 Duke to our market in limited quantities a few years ago, the chances of it bringing any more big bikes from its catalogue are slim.
